Santorum Drops Out!

I'll put this up as an open thread on the Republican primaries.  Why did Romney win?  Why is Gingrich still in the race? What happens next?  What else?

  1. Its been acknowledged from the start that Romney would be the GOP candidate. Gingrich is still in, it is his last chance to be viable. He might be fishing for a VP or cabinet position. Romney would be wise to at least have Gingrich be his debate coach.
Romney is perceived as the best choice to defeat Obama. I question the logic of placing a wealthy moderate against an extreme liberal.
But what do I know, no one I have ever voted for for president has ever won. Thanks Ross Perot.
And to stick with my tradition, I will continue to support Gingrich, even though its a moot point. But I will feel good about it, and will ultimately support Romney.
Combine that with my track record, I suppose we will have 4 more years of Obama, and ultimately a country unrecognizably socialistic.

Ever notice Newt looks like Ernie the Keebler Elf? And Romney looks like every comic book president?

    I like cookies, go Newt.

  2. Gingrich needs to drop out as soon as possible because he has no chance against Romney and he is running of money. I honestly think that the only reason why Gingrich is still in the race is because he has a huge ego. But yes, I do agree that Gingrich is better at debating than Romney. I think that while Romney is a more moderate candidate that will help him earn points from the independent vote. I heard something last night that Americans are not as dumb as people think, and Obama thinks that he is fooling people by making the stance that this is like his first time running. On Fox news last night they said that people are smart enough to know that Obama is an incumbent. Well...if they don't know what the word incumbent means they at least know that Obama has been President for 4 years. I don't think that Romney being wealthy should affect his chances of being elected because it just means that he can use more of his own money to campaign. I think that most people who consider themselves Republican are going to be ABO which stands for Anybody But Obama. I kind of think that Romney looks like a used care salesman. I think that Gingrich just looks angry, so yeah, angry elf. Saying all this, I think that Ginrich is more conservative but Romney has a better chance to win so I would vote for him.

  3. I am happy that Romney is on his path to the nomination. If I was going to vote republican I would have voted for Romney. Actually I will vote for Romney in the May primary. Romney is not the best candidate but he's not awful. I respect Mitt Romney. He did great work as Governor of Massachusetts, he saved the Olympics, and he's a good man. I lost respect for Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.
The election has always been "ABO". My biggest complaint since before this election began was that it was "ABO". The ABO strategy is shallow, elementary, and I have no respect for it. However the democrats had an "ABB" strategy in 2004. Anybody but Bush. It was weak, just like John Kerry. As a result Kerry lost. Although I must give credit to Karl Rove and the GOP for an effective campaign.
Kelsey your mention of incumbency is interesting and great point. Politicians should be judged on their accomplishments and their work in office. 4 years is one term. If people don't like what Obama has done with his time, then they shouldn't vote for him. Is this the nature of Presidential elections for a second term? That they are weaker and campaigns harder.
I think Romney should embrace his wealth. We are a culture that is fascinated by wealth. Kim Kardisian is an American icon. Everybody wants to be rich. Mitt Romney's new house in California has a garage with an elevator for his cars. That's outrageous, but now I want a garage with with an elevator for my cars. Mitt Romney could court the youth vote by doing an MTV cribs.
Charles did you not vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004? Truly I am sorry that you have had bad luck with presidential votes. I hope your votes for Governor and local leaders has been better.
I am not as well versed in republican politics as I am in democratic. I don't know as many of the major players. Who would republicans like to see as the VP? Who is in the running?
